Sustainability Consultant / Project Associate
Position Summary:
The Sustainability Consultant / Project Associate will play a vital role within Measure Meant by providing direct consulting services to clients, contributing to multiple projects of varying sizes and scope. The position involves leading projects, collaborating with team members, and working independently to achieve client goals. Projects may include working with tribal governments, municipalities, corporate clients, and research initiatives, all with a focus on sustainability and environmental impact. This role will require strong relationship management skills and the ability to engage with diverse groups within and outside client organizations.
Measure Meant is a dynamic organization where each team member is directly responsible for executing their own projects and tasks with minimal oversight. Projects often involve a high level of ambiguity, requiring the ability to assess client needs, deliver quality outcomes, identify additional opportunities for improvement, and develop thoughtful recommendations. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage directly in work that addresses climate change and influences how organizations contribute to environmentally sustainable and equitable systems.

This position is classified as at-will, which means that either the employee or the employer may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable laws. Salary Range: $64,000 - $70,000 depending on experience
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Essential Functions
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential responsibilities listed below.
- Lead and contribute to sustainability and climate-related projects, ensuring deliverables meet client expectations
- Assess client needs, define project scopes, and identify opportunities for enhancing client outcomes
- Develop recommendations and anticipate client needs based on project findings
- Consult directly with clients, managing relationships and maintaining regular communication
- Collaborate with team members to support Measure Meant’s mission and values
- Produce high-quality reports, presentations, and other deliverables
- Facilitate community engagement activities and climate policy initiatives
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends in sustainability
- Conduct background research or literature reviews to support project development and recommendations
- Assist in organizing and preparing materials for client presentations, workshops, or community engagement sessions
- Participate in team brainstorming sessions to develop innovative solutions for client challenges
Secondary functions of this position include:
- Provide support for marketing initiatives, such as creating content for company blogs, newsletters, or social media
- Represent the company at networking events, conferences, or community outreach programs
- Assist in internal administrative tasks, such as maintaining project management tools or updating internal databases
- Support the development of proposals and grant applications as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Work Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of four years of work experience that includes experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Background in environmental sustainability (e.g., job experience, education)
- GHG accounting experience and knowledge of GHG accounting principles
- Experience working with tribal governments, municipalities, or other governmental organizations
- Program management experience
- Consulting experience (internal or external)
- Client development experience
- Report development and/or graphic design
- Data analysis and/or financial analysis
- Experience with B Corp certification
- Leadership experience managing a department or team
- Community engagement expertise
- Climate policy work
Education:
Bachelor’s degree (BA) or higher is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of academic qualifications.
Other Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Data analysis tools, such as Excel (advanced functions) or other analytics software.
- Experience with Slack, Monday, or similar project management tools
- Experience using Adobe InDesign
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with accuracy and attention to detail
- Sound decision-making skills and the ability to manage competing deliverables and timelines
- Self-motivation to manage individual projects and collaborate effectively with team members
- Meet physical requirements of the job: ability to sit for long periods, operate standard office equipment, and communicate effectively
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone.
- Ability to see and read standard computer screens, documents, and printed materials.
- Ability to hear and communicate effectively in-person, over the phone, and during virtual meetings.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to focus for extended periods and manage physical and mental stamina to meet project deadlines.
- Regularly required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels.
- Occasional travel may be required for meetings, conferences, or on-site client visits.
Equipment / Tools Utilized:
- Standard office equipment, including computers, printers, scanners, and phones.
- Cloud-based document storage and sharing platforms (e.g., Google Drive, SharePoint).

Environment/Working Conditions
- Work is conducted in-person at the Measure Meant office in downtown Spokane
- Work is performed in a well-lit, climate-controlled office space with a moderate noise level.
- Ability to focus in a workspace with occasional interruptions or background activity.
- Regular use of computers, telephones, and standard office equipment.
NOTE: Measure Meant retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
