River City Youth Ops
River City Youth Ops is a nonprofit that serves the youth community in Spokane by providing hands-on training and leadership development. Their program engages kids in urban farming during the summer. Youth grow and harvest the food and sell produce at local farmers markets. The new Executive Director wanted to update their strategy to position the organization for long-term success.
The Need
River City Youth Ops is a nonprofit that serves the youth community in Spokane by providing hands-on training and leadership development. The new Executive Director wanted to update their strategy to position the organization for long-term success.
The Work
We started by engaging the ED and Board President to understand the current state and their vision for the future of River City Youth Ops. After that first session, we had two additional sessions to explore the strategy and tactical plans for implementing that strategy. At the end of the three sessions, we had a clear picture of where they wanted to go and how they might get there. We used all of this input to summarize the strategy, which we then reviewed with the full Board to gain their input and to incorporate their ideas into the plan.
The Impact
We were able to take the myriad ideas that the ED had for River City Youth Ops, create context and clarity, and organize those in a way that enabled her to have a clear path to move forward. Through the discussion with the Board, they identified opportunities for how they could evolve their engagement and better support the ED in implementing the updated strategy. The work and alignment with the Board helped empower the ED to work towards her vision for the future.
