GU Energy Labs
The Need
GU Energy Labs was looking to level up their sustainability program. As we were supporting GU in creating a sustainability plan aligned to B Corp standards, a request came in from one of their customers, REI Coop. We shifted our focus to help with GU Energy Labs satisfy REI’s emerging supplier requirements on climate action.
The Work
REI is asking their suppliers to measure their scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, set science-aligned targets, and create a carbon reduction plan. GU had never measured their emissions before, so we started at this first step by creating a Scope 1 and 2 emissions tracker for them to use year over year. We used an online estimator to start on their Scope 3 emissions and developed a questionnaire on emissions for GU to send to their co-manufacturers. Lastly, we developed a climate action plan for GU customized to their business.
The Impact
GU Energy has now leaped ahead in their climate work, already engaging suppliers and training people across the organization to understand carbon measurement and make climate friendly purchases. They have full buy in from the leadership team on the importance of this work, and we look forward to seeing where they take it in the future.
